Gold Purity — Karat Explained
Gold purity is measured in karats (K). Pure gold is 24K. Jewellery is mixed with other metals (copper, silver) to improve durability.
| Karat | Purity % | Common Use in Pakistan |
|---|---|---|
| 24K | 99.9% | Gold bars, investment coins |
| 22K | 91.67% | Most common jewellery (bridal sets) |
| 21K | 87.5% | Some jewellery, mid-range items |
| 18K | 75% | Modern/designer jewellery |
How to Find Today's Gold Rate in Pakistan
The official gold rate in Pakistan is set daily by the All Pakistan Sarafa Gems & Jewellers Association and is widely published by Sarafa Bazaars in Karachi, Lahore, and Peshawar. The rate is quoted per tola for 24K gold.
- Check Sarafa Bazaar Karachi or Sarafa Bazaar Lahore websites for daily rates
- Many Pakistani news websites (Geo, Dawn, ARY) publish daily gold rates
- The rate changes daily based on international gold prices and USD/PKR exchange rates
- Once you have the 24K rate per tola, enter it into our calculator above
Gold Price Formula
Our calculator uses this formula:
Gold Value = Rate (per tola) × Purity Factor × Weight (in tolas)
For example: 2 tolas of 22K gold at PKR 275,000 per tola (24K rate) = 275,000 × 0.9167 × 2 = PKR 504,185
Always ask for a hallmark certificate when buying gold. Reputable jewellers provide certificates showing karat purity. Also note that making charges (مزدوری) of 5–15% are added when buying jewellery — this is separate from the gold value and is not recovered when you sell.
