Most high-end restaurants in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad include a service charge of 5–10% on the bill. If no service charge is included, leaving 10–15% is considered generous and appreciated by the staff.

Delivery riders in Pakistan often earn low base wages. Even a small tip of PKR 50–150 per order makes a real difference. Many apps now have an in-app tip option at checkout.

Hotels & Hospitality

For porters, room service, and housekeeping in Pakistani hotels, PKR 100–300 per service is standard. For high-end hotels, 10% of the service value is appropriate.

When splitting a bill among friends, it is easier to round up slightly and leave the extra as tip. For example, if each person owes PKR 423, each pays PKR 450 — the extra PKR 27 per person adds up to a reasonable tip for the waiter.

Tip Calculation Formula

The math behind tip calculation is straightforward:

  • Tip Amount = Bill × (Tip% ÷ 100)
  • Total with Tip = Bill + Tip Amount
  • Per Person = Total with Tip ÷ Number of People

For example: A PKR 5,000 bill with 15% tip among 4 people: Tip = PKR 750 | Total = PKR 5,750 | Per person = PKR 1,437.50

What if the restaurant already added a service charge?
Check your bill carefully. If a service charge of 5–10% is already included, you do not need to add more. You may still leave a small cash tip directly for excellent service.
How do I split a bill unevenly?
